Great Falls, the second album from singer-songwriter Rhys Williams, is released today on Vinegar Alley Records.
Great Falls, out May 13th 2011
When singer-songwriter Rhys Williams was four years old, he flung himself from the top of a climbing frame at nursery, believing he could fly. For one beautiful instant, it seemed like he could. Rhys describes the moment just before his body clattered into the Tarmac as a defining one in his life. Now he’s recorded an album dedicated to the majesty of the heroic plummet. Great Falls takes a whole host of glorious, operatic disasters and celebrates them in song. It’s a joyous collection of impossibly catchy, immaculately crafted pop songs, which acknowledge a debt to thirty years of radio hits on both sides of the Atlantic. As well as featuring Williams on piano and vocals and longtime band members Sam Stopford and Mark Ferguson on drums and bass respectively, the album also features pedal steel from living legend BJ Cole and strings arranged by Paul Frith (Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead).
You can buy the record from most major online retailers, including iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic and Napster. You’ll shortly be able to buy old school physical copies from this site. Until then, the only way to get hold of your copy is to come to tonight’s gig at the 100 Club, 100 Oxford Street, London W1d 1LL. Doors open at 8pm and the band are onstage at 9pm.
Great Falls is out in two days time. The gig’s on Friday night at the 100 Club. And here’s the final preview, The Top, complete with Supertramp Wurlitzers, double tracked guitars, ludicrous West Coast harmonies and in the background, the faint sound of the sound of the kitchen sink being thrown in.
9th May - 91-93 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch, London, EC2A 3HZ
