We stood hushed as he read out the names
Departed ones gone to their graves
At the back of the crowd, we could hardly make out
The names of the bold and the brave
Blink
In an instant, we’re gone
We moved through the trees and the fog
I span you around till you fell to the ground
We laughed at it, and it was lost
Caught in your wake as I follow you
Wearily strain to keep up with you
I’m losing my place and it’s down to you
Hullabaloo
The bare and the black and the crawl
The glare as the striplight clicks on
The tongue starts to slip
The crack of a whip
Spiralling out of control
Caught in your wake as I follow you
Wearily strain to keep up with you
I’m losing my place and it’s down to you
Hullabaloo
Hold me now
Don’t hold me now
I’m hot and I’m cold
Love is like grief
When you feel incomplete and alone
We came to a stop by the lake
The whirlwind had dropped right away
Not a ripple could break its surface again
A blissful belief in escape
I’m hard pushed to hide what I used to do
What for purity’s sake I would keep from you
I’d run all the way if you asked me to
My hullabaloo
Caught in your wake as I follow you
Wearily strain to keep up with you
I’m losing my place and it’s down to you
Hullabaloo
A whimsical tale of a fictional whirlwind romance. The harp is played by Camilla Pay who is marvellous. I play the harmonium on this and if you listen carefully you can hear my feet pumping away through most of this song.
